ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man armed with a shotgun got more than he bargained for when trying to steal a truck from an Albuquerque business.
Instead of a free ride, surveillance video shows the victim wrestling away the suspect’s shotgun before he could use it.
“Well, I decided a long time ago that neither me or anybody around me was going to be a victim if I could do anything about it,” said David Mann about his experience.
Mann was working at Access Solutions Wednesday in northeast Albuquerque when he and another co-worker were held up at gunpoint by an unknown man.
After having a shotgun pointed at him, Mann said he wasn’t about to let the suspect take control.
“I was close enough, I reached out and grabbed the shotgun and gave it a twist to point the barrel up,” said Mann.
Mann recalled the moment as an “automatic” reaction.
The shotgun incident was preceded by a bad car crash near Jefferson and McLeod. Police say three people were inside of a red sedan that crashed into a truck which was waiting to turn left.
“It looked like they were going to try to make this corner, and just lost control,” a witness told police.
Albuquerque Police say two men and a woman got out of the red sedan and fled moments after the crash. One of those suspects ran about a half-block down McLeod and went into Access Solution’s open garage door.
“He wasn’t having a good day, I guess,” said Mann.
Mann and another co-worker were held up by the suspect as he was armed with a shotgun.
“(He) points a shotgun at us and yells at us to give him the keys to the truck,” said Mann.
Instead of giving up the keys, Mann says his instinct was to act confused.
“I walked on over there (shouting), ‘what do you want?’ You know, ‘what truck you talking about?’ You know, just playing dumb,” said Mann.
That gave Mann the moment he needed to grab the gun.
“I pushed him back up against the wall over there and I think I might have said something like, ‘you want to die?’” said Mann.
Mann’s co-worker hit the suspect, forcing him to give up the shotgun. Mann and his co-worker were not hurt.
“My only regret is that he got away, said Mann.
Albuquerque Police are still looking for that shotgun-wielding man and another male suspect who ran from the scene. If you have any information, call 242-COPS or Crime Stoppers at 843-STOP.

For years I have sold the SAR K2P and everyone has loved the gun. Some people however want some more “tactical” features, so out came the CM9. Biggest differences are the serrated and squared off trigger guard, the replaceable backstraps, and finger indents in the front of the grip. Most people were fine with the K2P grips with no complaints, but this gives you an option if you have smaller or larger hands.
